Wedding : The First Look

Matt and I decided that we should do a first look to ease our nerves and I am so glad we did. My mother insisted that she had never heard of a first look and that we shouldn't do one, but I was adamant about seeing Matt in my dress before the wedding. The morning of the wedding was so hectic and we saw each other off and on while running errands but when it came time to leave the dressing room it was as if I was going to see Matt for the first time in my life!

He waited for me outside the reception hall in front of the beautiful barn doors which just so happened to compliment his outfit ever so well. My mother and our officiant, Brandy, escorted me around the building to see him. The photographers captured Matt's expressions really well… I love the photo of him blowing through his cupped hands.

We walked down to the woods next to the chapel area to take our bridal portraits. Matt and I don't take a lot of photos so we felt extremely awkward but our photographers were great at capturing some special moments. I love how Kyle framed the photos with the woods around us, especially the use of the pink flowers in the ninth photo.

Of course we had to do the obligatory American Gothic photo which ties in Matt's love of farming and my love of art. However, we did not have a pitchfork, but instead a broom we used during the ceremony.

What do you think of first looks?

Tomorrow, I will post bridal portraits and write about finding my dress.
